Herbert Thomas

Executive Assistant

Mr. Thomas performs a wide range of assignments that include conducting research into matters that affect the management of the office, then making recommendations for solving management and administrative problems. Mr. Thomas’ duties also include monitoring the flow of correspondence into and out of the Director’s office, as well as responding to visitors and callers. Before coming to DFS, Mr. Thomas spent 11 years with the Washington Teacher’s Union, where he was Executive Assistant to the President. Among his duties was serving as primary liaison for all external/key contacts, including media relations, citywide labor management leaders, and local and federal government officials and congressional leaders. Mr. Thomas also spent nearly six years with the District government’s Executive Office of the Mayor, providing executive and administrative support to four Chiefs of Staff to DC mayors in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Before that, Mr. Thomas was an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist with the DC Office of Human Rights. He also worked as a Physical Science Technician for the FBI. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts from the University of the District of Columbia, and a Master of Public Administration from Southeastern University in Washington, DC.
