(Washington, DC) – Today, at 1 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will be joined by Kevin Donahue, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice; Dr. Jenifer Smith, Director, Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS), and Robert Contee, Assistant Chief, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to announce the availability of additional resources to support the District’s Criminal Gun Information Center (CGIC) housed at DFS.
The CGIC an interagency collaboration focused on the immediate collection, management, and analysis of crime gun evidence, such as shell casings, in real time, in an effort to identify shooters, disrupt criminal activity, and to prevent future violence. CGIC relies on an ongoing collaboration between MPD, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Following the announcement, DFS will offer a ballistic testing demonstration and tour. Interested press are asked to RSVP for the demonstration.
